Members of the Niger State House of Assembly have confirmed the appointment of Nasiru Muazu as the chairman of the State Judicial Service Commission.
They also confirmed the appointments of Alh. Ibrahim Musa Kigera, Adamu Isah Mashegu, Barr. Adamu Usman, Barr. Waziri Abdulkadir, and Isyaku Fawa as members of the commission.
Before the confirmation during plenary, the chairman of the Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters and representative of Borgu constituency, Abdulrahman Bala Gambo, told the House in his report that the nominees were screened to ascertain their eligibility and qualification for the appointment.
According to him: “The curriculum vitae and the credentials of the nominees were screened, efficient answers were provided for many of the questions asked, and the nominees were therefore found worthy of the appointment.”
Also, the members of the assembly passed into law a bill to establish a housing scheme for the state judicial officers, sponsored by Abdulrahman Bala Gambo.
While presenting the report, Gambo said the housing scheme law would provide personal homes to the judicial officers and serve as good motivation to resist enticements of all forms capable of compromising the morality of their judicial functions.
The lawmaker noted: “The law will contribute to promoting judicial independence and reduce all forms of corruption among judicial officers.”
After the presentation of the report, Speaker Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji read the bill for the third time, and it was passed into law.
He then commended the members of the Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters for a job well done and directed the clerk to transmit clean copies of the law to the executive for assent.
