Commuters experiencing hardship while plying the dilapidated Bauchi-Gombe highway may soon heave a sigh of relief as the federal government has awarded the rehabilitation of the road at the sum of N35 billion.
Consequently, arrangements have reached an advanced stage for the commencement of a complete rehabilitation of the portion of the road — Bauchi to Dindima.
The disclosure was made by the Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, while performing the groundbreaking of the 29 kilometers road from Dindima to Maina Maji in Bauchi and Alkaleri Local Government Areas awarded by his administration.
The Governor explained that the major components of the Bauchi-Gombe federal highway project include construction of bridges and culverts from Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi to Gombe to reduce the incessant cutting off of the road along the corridor especially during rainy season.
Bala Mohammed commended the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima for his commitment towards actualization of the project coming from the North-East subregion.
He however maintained that when completed, the road will address the transportation challenges being experienced by commuters as the road is the main link of Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba states to the rest of the country.
Bala Mohammed also disclosed that over N10 billion was approved to provide smooth access to Yankari Games Reserve in order to enhance transportation and commercial activities for the benefiting communities and tourists.
The Governor expressed hope that the road rehabilitation will be completed in good time before the high points of the coming rainy season.
