Osun State House of Assembly has recalled the caretaker chairman of Ede South Local Government, Mr Lukman Afolabi, suspended for misconduct.
Afolabi is a chairman of one of the two local government areas within Ede town, where the governor, Ademola Adeleke, hails from.
A statement signed by Olamide Tiamiyu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, which announced the suspension, said Afolabi should hand over to his vice immediately.
The statement further read, “Osun Assembly Suspends Ede South Main Council Caretaker Chairman
“The Osun State House of Assembly has suspended the Caretaker Chairman of Ede South Main Council, Mr Lukman Afolabi for misconduct.
“The suspended chairman is expected to hand over to his vice immediately.”
Efforts to get further clarifications from Tiamiyu failed, as calls to his mobile line rang out, while texts sent to him have not been replied to.
But a reliable source in the Assembly said Afolabi had insulted the Speaker, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, during a meeting held within the Assembly complex on Wednesday.
However, giving an update on the issue on Thursday, a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Tiamiyu, said the suspension has been lifted.
The statement further read, “The decision was taken after the parliamentary meeting of the Assembly today (Thursday) when honourable members reviewed the investigations conducted.
“Consequent upon that, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun recalled the chairman. He is to resume with immediate effect.
“Egbedun advised Afolabi to focus on how to discharge his duties, as the Assembly pledged to continue to play its supervisory role and ensure prompt sharing of the dividend of democracy to the people.”
