The APC Professionals Council has congratulated Fuad Laguda, the candidate of the ruling party, on his victory in the bye-election for Surulere Federal Constituency 1 of Lagos State held on Saturday, saying that the landslide victory recorded in the election was an indication of the people’s satisfaction with the leadership of the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Saturday declared Laguda the winner of Saturday’s bye-election after he polled a total of 11,203 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Jerry Afemikhe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 278 votes.
Laguda, following his victory, will replace Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff (COS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had resigned his membership in the 10th National Assembly to take up the appointment.
The APC Professional Council, a group within the ruling party, said this on Sunday in a congratulatory message signed by its National Director General, Hon. Seyi Bamigbade, pointing out that the victory was not an indication of the people’s satisfaction with the leadership of the ruling APC but also the fact that Lagosians were happy with the enviable antecedents of Hon. Gbajabiamila, the former representative of the constituency.
He expressed confidence that Laguda would justify the mandate of the people of the constituency by entrenching effective performance as the people’s representative.
The Council also passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and his economic blueprint, expressing hope that the economic challenges facing the country “will soon be a thing of the past as the policies being put in place to create wealth, generate employment, and alleviate poverty will soon be in full swing.”
It, however, appealed to governors in the states to make more efforts towards wealth creation so that prosperity would trickle down to the grassroots and improve the living standards of the people.
