The Executive Chairman, Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira has advised Nigerian women to be prudent in the management of scarce resources.
The council chairman said this is necessary to survive the economic hardship that is triggered by the free fall of the Naira and spike in prices of domestic goods.
Hon. Apatira gave the advice at the 2024 Community Women’s Conference 2024 themed, “Surviving through times” organised by the department of Women Affairs and Poverty and held at the Council Secretariat in Lagos.
Speaking on the aims of the conference, Apatira disclosed that it was aimed at supporting the country, state, society and the home through equipping women with necessary skills to navigate through the current economic challenges.
He said, “I am particularly delighted to note the usefulness and credibility of intellectual conversations we have had. My solemn pledge is to build on the gains of this initiative to continue to serve as the platform to expand the frontiers of the society, thereby positively impacting the home and society at large.
“A peaceful home is the bedrock of a peaceful society. When we get it right on the home front, society is the ultimate beneficiary. Conversely, when we get it wrong at the level of the family, the larger society will be at the receiving end.”
The facilitator of the conference, Matron Folawe Apanisile, a nurse and social worker with 37 years of experience, highlighted the guidelines that would take women through this tough economy.
According to him, periodic health screening is important to prevent depression and hypertension and other mental illness.
The guidelines, she stated, include, “check your weight, dress well to look good, eat balanced diet, exercise, get enough sleep, control your emotions, stop brooding over challenges, make yourself happy and smile always.”
