French farmers overturned a lorry and set fire to its contents ahead of protests planned to cripple Paris later this afternoon.
Footage from Narbonne, in the south of France, shows the vehicle’s back has been torn off and crates of peppers it was carrying strewn over the road and set on fire.
A tractor then repeatedly crashes into the lorry, eventually knocking it on its side while onlookers celebrate.
Farmers are converging on Paris to protest low pay, red tape and green policies and plan to blockade the city from 2pm local time (1pm GMT) by choking off the surrounding roads.
Gerald Darmanin, the Interior Minister, said 15,000 police officers had been deployed to prevent supermarkets and lorries carrying foreign produce from being targeted.
In recent days, farmers have seized and destroyed shipments of Belgian cauliflowers and Spanish peppers.
