The Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Prince Eniola Oyebode, the son of Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Oyebode Oyesosin.
According to a statement on Sunday by Yemisi Opalola, the command spokesperson, Oyebode’s arrest is in connection with the alleged murder of American-based lecturer and grassroots mobiliser Richard Idowu, aka Ade Ori Okin.
Idowu, according to reports available to Arogidigba Global Journal, was hit by a bullet from a gunshot by a security guard attached to Prince Oyebode.
The killing occurred in Ejigbo town during the 50th coronation celebration of the Ogiyan of Ejigboland, Oba Omowonuola Oyebode Oyesosin.
Arogidigba Global Journal had reported that Idowu, popularly known as Ade Ori Okin, was rushed to a medical facility for treatment but later gave up the ghost.
The statement reads: “The Osun Police Command is using this medium to inform the general public that the Command is aware of the shooting incident that occurred at Ejigbo, which led to the death of one Dr Richard Idowu, aka Adeori Okin.
“The incident occurred on 27/1/2024 at about 9:48 pm after the 50th Coronation Anniversary of the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Oyeyode Oyesosin, where one Prince Eniola Oyeyode of Ejigbo instructed one of his civilian guards, Hammed Abdul Jelili of Ejigbo, to fire his double-barreled gun into the air to confirm if the gun was in good condition or not, but instead shot directly at the victim, and he was rushed to a hospital but confirmed dead by the doctor.
“Meanwhile, Prince Eniola Oyeyode, who gave the order to his civilian guard to fire the gun, has been arrested and detained.”
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Bzigu Dali Kwazhi, through the statement, also appealed to members of the public, especially the residents of Ejigbo, to remain calm as a discreet investigation has commenced immediately.
Also, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, had directed the state police command to commence an investigation into the incident that led to the death of Idowu.
The order was made known in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday.
