There was wild jubilation among members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State on Friday after the Supreme Court affirmed the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The apex court dismissed the appeal filed by All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.
The Supreme Court held that the APC candidate failed to prove his case against the governor.
Members of the PDP in Warri South, Udu, Warri South-West and other parts of the state were seen in celebration mood on Friday morning.
The governor, Oborevwori, was also spotted at the Government House Chapel with members of the PDP, dancing and giving thanks to God for the judgment that upheld his election.
Justice Nyang Okoro, who read the judgement, said the APC and its candidate failed to provide substantial evidence to prove that the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial election in Delta State failed to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The court also resolved all issues against the appellants.
The Supreme Court also dismissed the appeals filed against Oborevwori’s election by former Minister of Education (State), Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and Mr Ken Pela of the Labour Party, LP.
The PDP Publicity Secretary in Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Mike Osuoza, confirmed the victory of the governor at the Supreme Court in a message he sent to our correspondent.
