The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, senatorial candidate for Kogi East, Peter Ameh, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, stands to benefit from divisions among opposition parties following the court judgment on the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Ameh said the ruling, which sacked the David Mark-led ADC National Working Committee and nullified Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy, should not be celebrated by any opposition party.
He made the remarks in Abuja on Thursday, warning that prolonged disagreements over the judgment could further weaken opposition parties and work in APC’s favour.
According to him, the ruling party benefits whenever an opposition party is weakened, regardless of its political affiliation.
“The APC, which is the ultimate beneficiary of this judgment, will be happy keeping any party in the opposition weakened. They do not care which party logo you wave. They want us fighting each other,” Ameh said.
He cautioned that what appeared to be a victory for one faction could later become a setback for another, urging opposition parties to avoid turning the judgment into another source of internal conflict.
Ameh called on opposition parties to shift their attention to demanding free, fair and credible elections instead of engaging in disputes over party leadership and candidacies.
He also accused the APC-led administration of failing to provide good governance over the past 11 years, urging opposition parties to unite to end its rule.
