The President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has called for a more structured partnership between Nigeria and its diaspora community to support national development.
He urged Nigerians abroad to contribute beyond financial remittances through professional expertise, investment, technology, knowledge transfer and institutional collaboration.
The presidential aide made the call while delivering the keynote address at the inaugural APC South-West Youth Diaspora Dialogue and Development Forum, convened by the Office of the APC South-West Youth Leader, Barr. Adesuyi Daramola.
Held under the theme “Connecting Nigerians Abroad for a Stronger Nigeria: From Questions to Practical Actions”, the forum provided a platform to explore practical ways of connecting global Nigerian talent with national development priorities.
Bwala emphasised that sustainable diaspora engagement requires credible institutions, transparent communication, accountability and measurable outcomes.
He also advocated sector-based diaspora networks and a practical framework for translating dialogue into meaningful development initiatives.
The forum featured contributions from Hon. Tunde Doherty, Hon. Oladipupo Silva-Ope and Mr Rilwan Tinubu, with discussions spanning investment partnerships, technology mentorship, skills development and youth inclusion.
Proposed follow-up initiatives included professional expertise mapping, mentoring clinics and skills-to-needs pilot programmes.
The central message of the APC South-West Youth Diaspora Dialogue was that Nigeria’s diaspora represents more than a source of remittances; it is a valuable reservoir of knowledge, skills, networks and partnerships that can support sustainable national development.
