A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of Sanusi Dankaka at the Kuje Correctional Centre for allegedly threatening to publish nude videos and photographs of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf on his Facebook page.
Justice Salim Ibrahim gave the order after Dankaka was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) and pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime offences.
The DSS, in a charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026 and filed on October 22 by Yusuf Afegbua, accused the defendant of committing the offences in October 2026.
In count one, Dankaka and some others still at large were alleged to have, in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, used his Facebook page, Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to publish malicious content.
He was alleged to have claimed that he possessed nude videos and photographs of Governor Yusuf and threatened to release them to the public, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, and punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act.
In count two, Dankaka and some others still at large were alleged to have used his Facebook page, Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to publish malicious content claiming that he possessed nude videos and photographs of the governor and threatening to release them to the public.
The DSS alleged that Dankaka knew the content of the publication was false but circulated it to cause annoyance, inconvenience, insult and injury to Yusuf’s person and reputation.
The offence, according to the DSS, was contrary to and punishable under Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended.
When the case was called on Monday, Afegbua, who appeared for the DSS, informed the court that the matter was scheduled for Dankaka’s arraignment and that the prosecution was ready to proceed.
The defendant’s lawyer, Kauna Penzin, also told the court that she was ready to proceed.
After the charge sheet was read to Dankaka, he pleaded not guilty to both counts. Afegbua subsequently applied for a trial date to prove the prosecution’s case against the defendant.
He also asked the court to remand Dankaka at the Kuje Correctional Centre, an application that the defence lawyer did not oppose.
Justice Ibrahim subsequently adjourned the matter until December 7 for the commencement of trial and ordered that Dankaka be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
