The Presidential Campaign Council of the African Democratic Congress, ADC-PCC, has called on Nigerian youths to vote against President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid in the next general election.
The council accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of failing to tackle unemployment, poverty and the high cost of living in the country.
It urged young Nigerians to back its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of the January 16 presidential poll, saying the APC has done little to improve the lives of young people since coming to power.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the call at the weekend when he met with youth leaders of the party in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Ologbondiyan said re-electing Tinubu would be a big mistake for Nigerian youths who, according to him, have been at the receiving end of the administration’s harsh economic policies.
He decried a situation where graduates cannot find decent jobs and have been forced to survive by doing petty trading, selling recharge cards and operating POS businesses.
The campaign spokesman also faulted the petrol price discount announced by the Tinubu government, saying it has not reflected at the pumps.
He noted that despite the government announcing that petrol would sell for N1,350 per litre, motorists are still buying above N1,400 per litre.
Ologbondiyan asked Nigerians to check the price at filling stations themselves, insisting that the so-called discount has not eased the burden on households and businesses.
“As youths, you have spent almost 12 years under the APC government confronting difficult economic circumstances, with many graduates struggling to find decent employment.
“For far too many, the available options have been petty trading, recharge card sales and operating point-of-sale (POS) businesses simply to survive,” he said.
