The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 19-year-old suspects over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and recovered a locally fabricated revolver pistol with two rounds of live ammunition.
The command disclosed this in a press release issued on Thursday by its Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the first suspect, Rufai Ahmed, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, was arrested on October 11, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by a surveillance team attached to the Farm Centre Police Division.
The team reportedly intercepted a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, along Sokoto Road during an intelligence-led patrol.
A search conducted on the spot led to the discovery of a bag containing a locally fabricated revolver pistol and two rounds of live ammunition in the possession of Ahmed, who was immediately arrested.
The statement added that following a discreet investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, operatives of the command’s Criminal Investigation Department arrested a second suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim, 19, of Kawo Quarters, Kano, in connection with the case.
The police said the arrests were part of efforts to implement the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-led policing, the sustained recovery of illicit firearms and zero tolerance for criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police has directed that investigations be intensified, after which the suspects will be charged to court.
CP Bakori commended the officers involved for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms possession and other criminal activities across Kano State.
He also urged members of the public to support the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and detecting crime.
