The Osun Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Wale Adebayo, has warned political parties in the state to disregard a directive asking for party details by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC.
Adebayo gave the warning in a statement issued by the council’s Secretary, Tosin Odeyemi, on Wednesday in Osogbo.
He also berated the directives issued by OSIEC Chairman, Hashim Abioye, on Tuesday to political parties directing them to furnish the commission with details of their political parties.
The Osun IPAC chairman held that the OSIEC chairman should have gone through the proper channels and followed the correct procedures before making the request.
“The Chairman has not called for a meeting to familiarise himself with chieftains and stakeholders of each political party.
“OSIEC has no jurisdiction to ask for particulars of political parties.
“There should be a stakeholders meeting between the Chairman and political parties,” the statement added.
Arogidigba Global Journal recalls that Osun IPAC had disagreed with the choice of Hashim Abioye as the OSIEC Chairman.
Also, other Civil Society Organisations, CSOs have sided with the Osun IPAC on the issue.
They held that Abioye before his appointment as OSIEC chairman was a card carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state and also a former Special Adviser on Legal Matters to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Abioye on his part claimed that immediately he was nominated, he resigned his membership of the Osun PDP and also from the Ademola Adeleke cabinet.
He also stated that he was thoroughly screened and duly cleared by the Osun State House of Assembly.
