Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved an additional N500m for housing and vehicle loan schemes for public servants in the state.
The governor has also approved increases in loan ceilings and duty tour allowances payable to officers undertaking approved official assignments within and outside the country.
The state Head of Service, Segun Odusanya, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists in Akure on activities lined up for the annual Civil Service Week celebration.
Odusanya said the approvals were aimed at improving workers’ welfare and productivity, adding that the administration had prioritised the welfare of workers and pensioners.
He said, “The government has approved an additional seed fund of N500 million for the housing and motor vehicle loan schemes for public servants. It has also approved upward reviews of the loan ceilings and duty tour allowance payable to officers undertaking approved official assignments within and outside the state, including assignments outside the country.
“These measures are intended to improve workers’ welfare and respond to prevailing economic realities. The government has continued to demonstrate its commitment to career progression through regular promotion exercises. All officers due for promotion in the 2026 cycle have received their promotion letters, while preparations for the 2027 promotion exercise are already underway. These exercises cover the mainstream civil service, primary and secondary teaching services, and relevant government parastatals.
“The government has continued to discharge its obligations regarding the payment of workers’ salaries and applicable allowances, including leave bonuses. This remains an important component of its commitment to workers’ welfare and financial stability.”
According to the Head of Service, the government had continued efforts to gradually settle inherited gratuity arrears owed to state and local government pensioners.
He added that the government had harmonised pensions for retired heads of service and permanent secretaries.
Odusanya said, “This initiative is an important step towards addressing pension-related concerns and recognising the contributions of these senior officers who devoted their productive years to the service of Ondo State.
“The administration’s attention to pension and gratuity obligations reflects the importance of honouring the service of retired public servants and promoting their financial well-being.”
He urged public servants to reciprocate the government’s interventions with greater dedication, discipline, integrity and accountability, stressing that improved welfare should translate into better service delivery.
Speaking on the 2026 Public Service Week celebration, themed “Harnessing Public Service for Good Governance,” Odusanya said the event was designed to promote professionalism, accountability, institutional solidarity and improved service delivery.
He said the six-day programme, which began with a press briefing on Monday, would feature a health walk, a novelty football match, a public service lecture, a panel discussion and Muslim and Christian thanksgiving services.
