The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has disclosed that the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) rose from N600 million annually to N43.9 billion in 2025, attributing the growth to the adoption of modern tax innovations and efforts to block revenue leakages over the past decade.
The Executive Chairman of KGIRS, Dr Salihu Sule Enehe, disclosed this while speaking to journalists during the Customer Service Week celebration held over the weekend, where taxpayers, customers and staff were recognised for their contributions to the growth of the state.
Enehe, who was represented by the Director of Income Tax, Mr Emmanuel Yusufu, described the event as an opportunity to appreciate stakeholders whose cooperation had supported the Service in carrying out its mandate and contributing to Kogi State’s development.
According to him, “When we started 10 years ago, the revenue of the state hovered around N600 million annually, but as we speak, as of 2025, we are already at N43.9 billion annually, and there is hope for improvement.”
Speaking about the organisation’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, Enehe said KGIRS had continued to support residents through various interventions, particularly during floods and in other areas of need.
He explained that flood victims were also taxpayers and deserved assistance in times of hardship, adding that the Service had contributed to educational development through the distribution of notebooks and exercise books to schools.
Enehe urged staff members to remain committed to their responsibilities and work collectively to improve the Service’s performance and advance the development of Kogi State.
“Let’s build KGIRS and Kogi State together by contributing our quota to revenue generation and collection,” he said.
He also disclosed that the Service had introduced measures to promote staff development and improve productivity, including financial support for employees undertaking professional courses, payment of examination fees, and sponsorship to conferences and other capacity-building programmes.
The celebration featured a cake-cutting ceremony and a raffle draw, during which selected staff members won various gifts. Six well-dressed staff members were also rewarded with N10,000 each in recognition of their appearance.
One of the award recipients, Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad Shuaibu, commended the KGIRS management for recognising the contributions of its workforce.
He said the recognition would spur staff members to redouble their efforts, improve productivity and discharge their official responsibilities more effectively and efficiently in service to the state.
