…as APM positions for 2027
Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has challenged the Federal Government to publish its petroleum pricing template, arguing that Nigerians deserve greater transparency in the determination of fuel prices.
Makinde made the challenge on Saturday while addressing APM stakeholders in the North-East zone during a strategic meeting held in Yola, Adamawa State.
He maintained that openness in the petroleum pricing process would enable citizens and relevant stakeholders to better understand the factors influencing costs and assess possible alternatives for addressing the country’s energy challenges.
He, however, identified insecurity, widespread poverty, inadequate electricity supply and energy security as critical national issues requiring urgent and practical solutions.

He also questioned Nigeria’s position in regional petroleum trade, raising concerns about why neighbouring countries such as Chad and the Niger Republic had favoured alternative petroleum export routes through Cameroon and the Benin Republic.
According to the position he presented, addressing such concerns requires a closer examination of the country’s energy infrastructure, commercial competitiveness and regional economic relationships.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Makinde pledged that an administration under his leadership would prioritise transparency, accountability and national unity.
He also proposed a transitional Government of National Unity with a maximum tenure of four years, presenting the idea as a framework for broad-based political participation and efforts to address the country’s political concerns.
The proposal formed part of wider discussions on how Nigeria could strengthen democratic inclusion, improve public confidence in governance and pursue a more cohesive national development agenda.
Speaking earlier, Bauchi State Governor and National Leader of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, called for a new approach to governance anchored on true federalism, equal opportunities, inclusive leadership and knowledge-driven policymaking, declaring that Nigeria’s complex challenges require bold ideas, effective institutions and a genuine commitment to national development.
Mohammed emphasised the need to build a political system that accommodates diverse interests, strengthens democratic participation and creates opportunities for citizens across all regions of the country.
His remarks placed governance reform, national cohesion and sustainable development at the centre of the party’s engagement with stakeholders as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor commended the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Ɗantalle, for providing a platform for political participation and the pursuit of leadership aspirations.
He expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to expand its national presence by promoting policies that respond to the needs and expectations of Nigerians.
He also stressed that the country’s future depends not merely on political competition but also on the quality of leadership, the effectiveness of public institutions and the ability of elected officials to translate policy commitments into tangible improvements in citizens’ lives.
The governor’s message underscored the importance of inclusive governance, in which different communities, political interests and social groups have a meaningful stake in national decision-making.
The Yola meeting brought together party leaders, governorship candidates and other stakeholders from across the North-East, providing a platform for discussions on the party’s direction, national challenges and preparations for the forthcoming electoral cycle.
Beyond party mobilisation, the gathering highlighted key questions confronting Nigeria’s political leadership: how to deepen federalism, improve economic opportunities, tackle insecurity, strengthen energy security and ensure that public policy delivers measurable results.
For the APM, the challenge ahead will be to translate these commitments into clear policy proposals, credible implementation plans and a compelling national agenda capable of earning public trust.
As the country moves towards the 2027 general elections, the party’s emphasis on inclusive governance, transparency and institutional reform places the substance of its policy commitments firmly in focus.
