AFCON 2027 qualifying starts with two matchdays between 24 September and 6 October 2026. Forty-eight teams play twice before the competition pauses until November.
That opening window can move betting prices quickly. On platforms such as vippari, six points may sharply shorten a favourite’s qualification price, while one poor home result can reopen a group.
The finals will be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July 2027, with 24 teams qualifying. In nine groups, the top two advance. Groups D, H and L are different because the co-hosts are already through, leaving only one additional place in each group.
Two Matches Can Change the Price Quickly
Before qualifying starts, bookmakers rely mainly on rankings, squad strength and recent form. After two games, they have actual points.
Côte d’Ivoire face Ghana on 24 September in Group C alongside Gambia and Somalia. A home win would fit expectations. A draw or Ghana victory would immediately make the second qualification place more competitive.
Morocco–Gabon, Egypt–Angola, Algeria–Zambia and Senegal–Mozambique raise similar questions. Nigeria open at home to Madagascar, while Mali face Cape Verde.
None of those groups will be settled after Matchday 2, but dropping four points would leave a strong side with much less room for error across the final four fixtures.
The Host Groups Work Differently
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania still take part despite already having places at the finals.
In Group D, South Africa, Guinea and Eritrea fight for one spot alongside Kenya. Group H leaves Tunisia, Libya and Botswana chasing one place next to Uganda. Group L has Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau competing alongside Tanzania.
That makes South Africa–Guinea on 26 September more important to qualification than Kenya–Eritrea on the same matchday.
Nigeria face the same setup. Six points against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau would put them in a strong position. A slower start would keep Madagascar involved in November.
This is why match-winner and qualification markets should be read separately. A short 1X2 price does not always show how important the result is.
Which Markets Become More Useful After Matchday 2
Once every team has played twice, the table gives more context to the next prices.
- Group winner and qualification: six points in a four-team group look very different from two when only four games remain.
- 1X2 and Asian handicap: venue, travel and rotation matter more once teams know where they stand.
- Totals and both teams to score: these depend on the pairing rather than the assumption that qualifiers are automatically low-scoring.
- Player props: confirmed line-ups matter because international roles can differ from club roles.
Sierra Leone–Zimbabwe and DR Congo–Equatorial Guinea on 24 September look more balanced than Morocco–Gabon, so the handicap may be more useful than simply taking a short favourite.
Player Markets Need More Than Club Form
Player props are harder to price because national-team roles can change.
Players arrive from leagues across Europe and the Middle East with different workloads. A striker who regularly completes 90 minutes for his club may play less for his country. Set-piece duties and positions can also change.
Checking the confirmed XI through vippari apk can therefore be more useful than relying on a player line posted hours earlier.
Shots, shots on target and scorer markets make more sense once the role is clear.
What the Table Will Look Like After 6 October
Two matches are still a small sample, but by 6 October the groups will already look different.
Morocco in Group A, Egypt in Group B, Senegal in Group J and Nigeria in Group L are expected to start strongly. Six points should shorten their qualification prices and influence November handicaps.
If they fall short, the more interesting move may appear in the second-place or qualification market rather than simply betting against the favourite.
The next window runs from 9 to 17 November. Matchdays 5 and 6 are scheduled for 22 to 30 March 2027.
The first two rounds will not settle AFCON 2027. They will provide a real table, real points and a clearer view of which early betting prices were too short or too generous.
