The FCT Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, for allegedly killing her newborn baby in Jabi, Abuja.
Police said they received a distress call on 4 October 2026 at about 10.30 p.m., reporting the discovery of an abandoned baby in a bush in the Jabi area.
In a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that operatives from Jabi Division were deployed to the scene, where the lifeless body of a male infant with deep wounds to the throat and abdomen was recovered. The infant was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
“Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a manhunt for the suspect.
“With the assistance of members of the community, Ms Precious Yohanna, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State and resident of the Daki-Biu/Jabi area, was traced and arrested.
“Investigation revealed that the suspect gave birth to the baby inside her room on 3 October 2026 at about 4.00 p.m. and allegedly used a razor blade to inflict fatal injuries on him.
“Police said the suspect admitted that she carried out the act out of hatred for the baby’s father,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the act, describing it as a grave violation of the sanctity of human life, and commended community members for assisting in the arrest.
He assured that the command would conduct a thorough investigation and that the suspect, who remains in custody, would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
