Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the implementation of promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board for January and July 2026.
The approval followed a request by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Yusuf Kabir, for the release of N235,116,339.09 to implement the promotions across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Government House Director General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Tofa, the government said the affected workers were eligible teaching and non-teaching personnel whose promotions had been processed.
The statement said the implementation would include corresponding salary adjustments for the affected workers.
According to SUBEB, the timely implementation of promotions was important for staff motivation, career development, capacity building and improved service delivery in the basic education sector.
“We currently have about 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 LGEAs, making it one of the largest public institutions in the state,” the statement said.
It said the Yusuf administration inherited outstanding promotion backlogs involving arrears of up to seven years, as well as another backlog spanning one and a half years.
“The governor had previously approved and implemented the outstanding promotions, which had improved staff morale and restored confidence among workers,” the statement said.
“We completed the necessary processes for the 2026 promotion cycles, including verification of staff eligibility and computation of salary adjustments,” SUBEB added.
The approval was subsequently ratified by the Kano State Executive Council, paving the way for the release of the funds for implementation.
The government said the latest intervention further demonstrated the administration’s commitment to the welfare and career development of public servants in the basic education sector.
