The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit allegedly involved in livestock theft in Gidan Madi, Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested at a market while allegedly in possession of a goat later identified by its owner as one of the animals stolen from the community.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the arrest in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Thursday.
Rufai said the victim not only identified the goat but also recognised the suspect as one of those allegedly involved in the theft.
He said the suspect and his accomplices had gone to Jurelku, a village in Gidan Madi, on September 15, where they allegedly stole the victim’s animals.
“The suspect was arrested at the market with a goat. The owner identified the goat and also identified the suspect and his colleagues who came to Jurelku, one of the villages in Gidan Madi, where they took away his animals.
“The suspect is currently in custody and he is giving us full information,” Rufai said.
The police spokesman added that the suspect’s arrest had provided investigators with useful information that could help track down other members of the group.
He said the investigation was ongoing.
