Leno Adesanya, the promoter of Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited, has stated that he has no links with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki.
Adesanya also dismissed claims linking him politically to the duo, describing them as the work of mischief-makers and political detractors.
Apparently reacting to renewed debate surrounding the stalled Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project, the promoter of Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited insisted that his only interest in the project had always been its successful development, not political patronage.
It would be recalled that the business mogul, who began his career at Citibank in the 1980s before building successful ventures in the energy sector, said his professional journey had brought him into contact with people from diverse backgrounds, stressing that such relationships should not be misconstrued as political affiliations.
Declaring, “I am a Yoruba man and more Tinubu than Atiku,” Adesanya added that his support for President Bola Tinubu was based not only on shared ethnic heritage but also on a long-standing personal association with the President.
The businessman disclosed that he had written several letters, even against the advice of his lawyers, seeking an amicable resolution to the disputes surrounding the Mambilla project, adding that he wanted the Tinubu administration to succeed.
In his words: “Some of the dates of association have no significant relevance to the Mambilla hydro project.”
Adesanya further dismissed attempts to weaponise his past associations for political purposes.
His comments came following a recent ruling by an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration tribunal in Paris in favour of the Federal Government of Nigeria in the long-running legal battle between Sunrise Power and the Federal Government, a dispute that had constituted a major legal obstacle to the project’s development.
The business mogul tasked stakeholders with moving beyond the controversies and focusing on the project’s potential contribution to Nigeria’s power supply and economic development.
He reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s re-election and his desire to see the long-awaited project become a reality.
