The St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association has honoured the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his distinguished career in public service and leadership.
Disu received the award on Saturday, at a grand reception held in Lagos. He was honoured alongside the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Cardoso, at the event celebrating distinguished old boys of the institution.
In a post by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Chief Superintendent of Police, Ani Iniedu, on X, the award recognised Disu’s more than three decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force and his professional achievements since completing his secondary education at St. Gregory’s College in 1985.
The recognition highlighted his career in frontline policing, criminal investigation, intelligence operations, international peacekeeping, and senior command responsibilities.
Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992 and has served in several operational and leadership positions, including Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, Head of the Intelligence Response Team and Commissioner of Police.
He was appointed the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police in February 2026.
The award also acknowledged Disu’s emphasis on professionalism, intelligence-led policing, accountability, personnel welfare, community partnership and the responsible deployment of technology to strengthen public safety.
Reacting to the honour, Disu expressed appreciation to the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association, describing the recognition from his alma mater as particularly significant.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving Nigeria with integrity and strengthening the Nigeria Police Force as a professional, accountable and people-centred institution.
The IG said the values and education acquired at St. Gregory’s College had remained important in shaping his journey and commitment to public service.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to promoting exemplary leadership, professionalism and dedicated service, while recognising the role of education, values and mentorship in preparing officers to contribute meaningfully to national development.
