The Yobe State Government has called on global investors to unlock the potential of its 1.6 million hectares of arable land as part of efforts to attract investment, create jobs and promote sustainable economic development.
The state presented its investment and development agenda at the 2026 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where it engaged potential international partners on opportunities in agriculture, renewable energy, mining, healthcare and youth development.
The Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Mamman Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement on the state’s engagements at the UNGA.
According to the statement, Governor Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Baba Malam Goje, said the state was using the global platform to showcase its natural resources, strategic location and youthful population to attract productive investments.
“It is an opportunity to showcase Yobe’s natural resources, strategic location and youthful population into productive opportunities to facilitate employment and sustainable prosperity that would advance Yobe’s interests through global engagements,” Buni said.
The statement said Yobe was promoting investment opportunities in soyabean, sesame and livestock, with four completed sesame seed processing factories and a modern livestock hub highlighted as part of the state’s economic assets.
It added that the state was expanding and formalising economic activities in Potiskum, Buni Yadi, Geidam, Garin Alkali and other livestock markets.
The government also promoted investment opportunities through public-private partnership (PPP) arrangements under the Yobe State Public-Private Partnership Law 2023, with the Yobe State Agency for Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion serving as the coordinating window for investors, according to the statement.
The statement said the state also engaged Africa’s leading industrialist, Aliko Dangote, at the Unstoppable Africa Forum on possible partnerships and investments in productive assets and professionally managed portfolios to generate sustainable income for widows, women and victims of conflict.
It quoted Goje as saying the objective was to move citizens beyond short-term interventions towards reliable economic independence and lasting financial resilience.
The delegation also engaged the United Nations Youth Office on opportunities for young people, including funding, internships, professional networks, technology and enterprise development.
According to the statement, the engagement opened discussions on possible Yobe participation in the United Nations Youth Townhall in Heidelberg, Germany, as well as a proposed youth development boot camp focused on education, skills development, enterprise and youth inclusion.
The delegation also participated in the Accra Reset launch of A Sovereign Future for Health, alongside former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
The statement said the engagement focused on African ownership of health systems, domestic financing and stronger institutional capacity, adding that the issues aligned with the state government’s investments in healthcare infrastructure, service expansion, workforce development and health-system strengthening.
It added that the Yobe delegation also participated in an African Union-European Union dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security, where discussions focused on the Bujumbura Outcomes, generational leadership and meaningful youth participation in peacebuilding and governance.
