The Imo State Police Commissioner, Audu Garba Bosso, has deployed personnel to some strategic positions within the capital territory Owerri, ahead of the Senior Police Officers Conference taking place in the state.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the measures are geared towards strengthening security in collaboration with other security agencies to have a hitch free event which is scheduled to hold from September 21 to 23.
Okoye hinted that the conference, with the theme, Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections, is expected to attract senior police officers, distinguished dignitaries, Strategic Managers of the Nigeria Police Force and other participants from across the country to deliberate on critical issues relating to security, public safety and the effective management of security during elections.
“Police personnel have been deployed to the venue, designated hotels, major routes and other strategic locations across the state, including the airport route. Personnel have been directed to maintain professionalism, uphold the rule of law and respect citizens’ rights.”he said.
The Command’s spokesperson, added that Police Traffic Wardens have equally, been deployed to strategic points to regulate traffic and ensure smooth movement.
He further added that motorists and residents are urged to cooperate with personnel on duty and make necessary adjustments to their movements where required.
The Command, also used the medium to welcome all dignitaries and other participants to the State and assures residents and visitors of a peaceful and secure environment throughout the event.
“The Command warns criminally minded persons and mischief makers to steer clear of the venue, designated hotels and other strategic locations, assuring that anyone found engaging in criminal activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law.” Okoye warned.
