Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, Taye Kasali, over the alleged killing of his mother, Kudirat Kasali, whose remains were recovered from a shallow grave on a family farm.
The arrest followed a missing-person report lodged at the Bode-Osi Police Division on September 1 after Kudirat and her son were reported missing.
According to the command, investigation into the disappearance led to information linking Taye to the suspected death of his mother.

The suspect was arrested on September 7 following an intelligence-led investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s disappearance.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said Taye allegedly confessed during interrogation to killing his mother on August 31, 2026.
Ojelabi said the suspect allegedly told investigators that he buried his mother’s remains in a shallow grave on the family farm.
Following information allegedly provided by the suspect, police operatives visited the farm and recovered the remains from the location he identified.
A machete suspected to have been used in the alleged killing was also recovered from the scene and taken into police custody as an exhibit, the command said.
The police said the suspect allegedly told investigators that his mother had repeatedly described him as mentally unstable.
He also allegedly cited a disagreement over the family farmland, claiming that his mother had threatened to lease out the property, which he regarded as the family’s major source of livelihood.
The command said investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, directed the investigative team to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the suspect was prosecuted in accordance with the law after the conclusion of the investigation.
Zungura assured residents that the command would pursue the case to its logical conclusion while ensuring due process.
The command urged residents to promptly report missing persons, suspicious movements and other activities capable of threatening public safety.
It also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing crime and bringing perpetrators to justice.
