The Ogun State Controller of Corrections, Abioye Adesina, has called for more support from non-governmental organisations, private entities, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen rehabilitation and reintegration efforts for inmates.
Adesina made these remarks on Friday during the graduation ceremony for 28 inmates at the Old Abeokuta Custodial Centre in Ibara, Ogun State, who have completed basic computer skills training.
He noted that expanding partnerships would help provide additional training, equipment, and necessary resources to prepare inmates for successful reintegration into society better.
The Controller explained that the training is part of the Nigerian Correctional Service’s efforts to equip inmates with practical skills that will help them become productive upon completing their sentences.
The graduation ceremony was organized by the Centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation (CELSIR) in collaboration with the Kastenbeelo Computer Training Institute.

Adesina emphasized that the program aims to prepare inmates for life after incarceration, stating that computer skills would improve their chances of earning a living and becoming self-reliant upon returning to their communities.
While stressing that rehabilitation is a core mandate of the Correctional Service, he reiterated the importance of providing inmates with opportunities to learn skills that can help them build better lives.
He urged the graduating inmates to make good use of the knowledge they have acquired and to remain focused in order to avoid actions that could lead them back to custody.
“You must use these skills to create better opportunities for yourselves and contribute positively to society,” he said.
