Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has provided a total of ₦29.8 million in financial assistance to 1,490 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II service year.
Each corps member received ₦20,000 to help cushion transportation costs and other immediate expenses as they proceed to their various places of primary assignment across the state.
Governor Ododo announced the gesture on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the three-week 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II NYSC Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, the governor said the intervention was part of his administration’s commitment to supporting young people and creating an enabling environment for them to contribute to the development of the state.
He urged the corps members to approach their service year with dedication, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility while making meaningful contributions to the communities where they would be posted.
Ododo encouraged them to deploy the knowledge and skills acquired during the orientation programme towards solving problems and supporting development initiatives in their host communities.
The governor further charged the corps members to serve as ambassadors of positive change by sharing useful knowledge, promoting unity and contributing to programmes capable of improving the welfare of residents.

He assured them that the state government remained committed to their safety and welfare throughout their service year, while appealing to host communities to provide a friendly, secure and supportive environment for the corps members.
Governor Ododo also congratulated the corps members on successfully completing their tertiary education and urged them to uphold the core values of the NYSC, including patriotism, integrity, discipline and selfless service.
Earlier, the Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Chris Moneke Chika Tochi, disclosed that the corps members had undergone three weeks of intensive physical, mental and moral re-orientation.
She said the training was designed to equip them with relevant knowledge, information and skills needed to make their service year productive and impactful.
The NYSC coordinator commended Governor Ododo for his continued support for corps members serving in Kogi State, noting that his interventions had included the provision of food items and financial assistance.
She described the latest ₦29.8 million gesture as timely and said it demonstrated the governor’s concern for the welfare of corps members.
