The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear the appeal against the Nasarawa state governorship election.
The Nasarawa appeal is included in Tuesday’s schedule on the apex court’s cause list.
The state governorship appeal is one of the anticipated matters at the apex court.
The tribunal had sacked the governor, Abdullahi Sule, and declared David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the March 18, 2023 election.
The tribunal, led by Ezekiel Ajayi in a split decision of two-to-one held that having evaluated the evidence before the panel, the PDP candidate substantiated his claim that the poll results were manipulated in favour of Sule.
But the appeal court reinstated Sule and held that the tribunal wrongly relied on the evidence of eight of the PDP witnesses, whose statements on oath were not front-loaded alongside the petition.
Ombugadu, however, appealed the judgment at the apex court.
Meanwhile, the youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state has called for justice and fairness in the appeal before the Supreme Court.
The leader of the youths, Sani Mohammed in a statement on Monday commended the Supreme Court on the judgments delivered on the 2023 governorship elections appeals so far, urging the court to ensure justice in the state appeal.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for not interfering in the affairs of the judiciary.
Mohammed said: “We commend our president, Bola Tinubu, for not interfering with the judiciary and secondly we want to call all the supreme court judges to do justice, especially in this Nasarawa case.
“Whoever won on March 18, 2023, let them give victory to the owner of the mandate and that is why we are here. We also call on our people to be law-abiding, we don’t want any distraction in Nasarawa state, and we don’t want any trouble in Nasarawa state. Our own, what we are looking for is our victory and by the grace of God Ombugadu will become the governor of Nasarawa state.
“I am fully satisfied with supreme court judgements so far, especially in Kano and Plateau states want to commend the Supreme Court for doing that and I want them to replicate such a decision in Nasarawa state by the grace of God.”
