The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his electoral victory, describing the outcome as a reaffirmation of the sovereignty of the people.
In a statement signed by its National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere also commended the people of Osun State for their commitment to democracy and the peaceful exercise of their franchise.
The organisation urged Adeleke to receive the renewed mandate with humility and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that the victory should be regarded as a solemn covenant with the people rather than a political trophy.
Afenifere called on the governor to govern with fairness and inclusiveness, while placing the interests of the state above partisan considerations.
The group also praised President Bola Tinubu for congratulating Adeleke by telephone before the formal declaration of the result by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), despite the defeat of the candidate of the President’s party.
According to Afenifere, the President’s gesture demonstrated democratic maturity and showed that partisan competition should not override the national interest.
It said the development should serve as an example to political leaders across the country, urging contestants and their supporters to accept electoral outcomes gracefully rather than resort to vendetta, recrimination or institutional hostility.
“Political fortunes are transient; democratic institutions and national cohesion must endure,” the organisation said.
Afenifere further congratulated Adeleke and wished him wisdom, courage and sagacity in discharging the responsibility entrusted to him by the people of Osun State.
