Former Anambra State governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan have congratulated Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election.
Adeleke, who contested Saturday’s governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to secure a second term in office.
Reacting to the outcome, Obi said the election demonstrated that the people remained central to the democratic process.

Obi, in a statement on Sunday via his verified X handle, congratulated Adeleke and the people of Osun State, saying the result showed that they had exercised their right to choose their leaders.
Obi said Adeleke’s re-election victory to office reflected the confidence voters had placed in him based on his administration’s performance.
“I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and the good people of Osun State on this important democratic victory,” Obi said.
He also commended young people in the state for participating in the electoral process and protecting their votes.
According to him, the Osun election offered an important lesson ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process.
“The lesson from Osun is clear: democracy is strongest when citizens are alert, conscious of their civic responsibility, and determined to ensure that their votes count,” he said.
Obi urged political actors to prioritise Nigerians’ interests and embrace peace and the rule of law.
He said elections should be contests based on ideas, competence, character and service rather than violence.
He also called on Nigerians to remain informed and actively participate in the 2027 elections, saying citizens could use their votes to demand better governance.
Meanwhile, Lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, also congratulated Adeleke on his victory.
In a brief message on her Facebook page, the senator wrote: “Congratulations H.E. Adeleke. Congratulations Osun State. Respect from Kogi Central.”
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes, according to the final result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
