The Imo State Government has declared its readiness to host a 4-day Conference of the National Council for Finance and Economic Development (NCFED).
The conference, scheduled to hold next week, is the first to be held in the Southeast geopolitical zone, with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy as Chairman. It will kick off on Monday, the 16th, at the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre (EIICC), Owerri.
The State Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy, Mr. Chuck Chuckuchemeka, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on programmes lined up for the event.
He said the conference is expected to attract dignitaries from across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, state commissioners for finance, as well as state accountants-general.

He said that the primary aim of the conference will focus on ways to strengthen the nation’s struggling economy for envisioned positive effects on the states.
The Commissioner said that this will be in line with the theme of the conference, which is “Strengthening Fiscal Federalism For Sustainable Revenue Generation, Equitable Allocation And Economic Reliance In A Volatile Global Economy”.
According to him, the conference would be declared open by Governor Hope Uzodimma, adding that it would not only boost the economy of the state but also attract enormous revenue to the state’s hospitality industry, consequent upon the influx of visitors and sundry guests for hotel accommodation.
He said: “We are expecting at least 300 visitors who will seek hotels accommodation in our state and this will surely boost our economy”.
