The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to preserve the current democratic rule in the country by allowing the opposition parties to breathe.
This is as he also charges the Nigerian President to ensure the independence of democratic institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Judiciary, and security agencies.
Kwankwaso, who was represented by the member representing Tanami Federal Constituency of Kano State, Hon. Muktar Umar Zakari, made this known in Ibadan while speaking at the South West Stakeholders Conference and the inauguration of the Oyo State Executive and South West Zonal Executive of a Pro – Obi/ Kwankwaso Presidential Support Group, tagged “OKAY: A New Nigeria”.

Kwankwaso, while speaking, said everybody is aware that President Tinubu has put one problem or the other in all the opposition parties in Nigeria.
“From what we are seeing, we heard a rumour that he doesn’t want anybody to participate in the election except the All Progressives Congress (APC). So we are pleading with the President to allow the opposition to be. There is no democracy without viable opposition. Years back, he was in the opposition, and now he is the president; let him leave a lasting legacy.
“Let him allow democracy to thrive. He should not truncate Democracy this time. So many leaders have come and gone. Let him leave some good legacies. He should leave a legacy that Nigerians can be proud of”.
Kwankwaso also advised the electorate not to be sentimental in voting, urging them to elect the right people into government
“They should not allow themselves to be bought by mere sentiment or gifts. During the election, politicians have a way of influencing the poor masses. APC has been able to frustrate everybody. I saw on social media that they were giving one kilogram of rice to people in Osun State ahead of the election. Is that how bad we are?
“I urge Nigerians to shy away from rice and other gifts and vote for the right people. Watch your conscience. We are now in a serious security crisis. We are in absolute poverty. We can’t continue doing things the way we have been doing it. We need to change. Please vote for the right people, and the right people are Obi and Kwankwaso. The ticket is a healing ticket “, Kwankwaso said.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of OKAY: A New Nigeria. Hon. Chibuisi Mba said the OKAY – New Nigeria is a people – centric group that is drawing Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as President and Vice President come 2027.
He said the Obi/Kwankwaso partnership is the best for the country, saying that they are people – oriented individuals.
“If you go to Anambra, you would see that Peter Obi was focused on saving money for the future of Anambra residents while he was Governor. Also, if you go to Kano, Kwankwaso is known for his efforts in providing education for the masses. And education all of us know, is the key to societal development.
Mba urged the electorate to vote for the credible candidate in the presidential election come January 2027, who are Obi and Kwankwaso.
Also in his welcome address, the Oyo State coordinator of Okay: A New Nigeria and the Chairman of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Oyo State, Hon. Makinde Anthony Sunday, affirmed that members of the group have put all plans and strategies in place that will ensure the victory of Obi/Kwankwaso in Oyo State in the 2027 general election.
He maintained that the pedigree and antecedents of both Obi and Kwankwaso, when both were the governors of their respective states, are enough evidence that both of them will move Nigeria out of its present economic and security quagmire.
Makinde urged the people of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole to vote massively for Obi/Kwankwaso for a better Nigeria come 2027.
