The family of 55-year-old Mrs Opeoluwa Dorcas has appealed to well-meaning Nigerians for financial support to enable her undergo a life-saving kidney transplant estimated to cost N45.1 million.
According to a medical report obtained by PUNCH Online on Monday, Dorcas was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease secondary to chronic glomerulonephritis.
Dorcas requires an urgent kidney transplant after her condition failed to improve despite undergoing regular dialysis.
The family said she has undergone more than 50 dialysis sessions, each costing N45,000, in addition to expenses for medications, blood transfusions, kidney function tests, echocardiograms and other medical procedures.
Speaking to PUNCH Metro on Monday, her son, Joshua, said the family had exhausted its savings on treatment despite receiving support from friends and members of their church.
“We received support from friends and our church, but the cost of dialysis and medications has consumed almost everything we have raised. She has been doing her dialysis (twice a week), and she has done more than 50 sessions.
“A session costs N45,000. She does EuCR (Kidney function test), blood transfusion, echocardiogram tests and more,” he said.
A medical report dated August 12, 2025 and signed by Dr Abdulahi O.J. of PurpleMed Specialist Medical and Kidney Centre, Oyo State, estimated the total cost of the transplant at N45,113,609.09.
The breakdown includes N27.34 million for the kidney transplant package, N16.08 million for one year of post-transplant immunosuppressant medications, and N1.7 million for six months of post-transplant laboratory investigations.
The family appealed to government agencies, philanthropic organisations, religious bodies and members of the public to support the patient.
“We appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians, organisations, and corporate bodies to come to her aid. She is fighting for her life, and the cost of dialysis, medications, and ongoing treatment has become overwhelming for the family.
“Every donation and every share of her story brings hope and could help give her a second chance at life. No amount is too small,” the family said.
