Critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector are set to converge in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, to assess the achievements, reforms, challenges and prospects of the sector under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, is expected to lead discussions at the 2026 Education Summit organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN), scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, in Abuja.
The summit, with the theme, “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector,” will provide a platform for policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners, school administrators, researchers, civil society organisations, student representatives and media professionals to examine the impact of ongoing reforms in the sector.
ECAN, the umbrella body of accredited journalists covering education across the print, broadcast and online media, said the summit is aimed at fostering constructive dialogue on policies, achievements recorded and the critical issues requiring urgent attention to improve education outcomes in Nigeria.
In a statement on Monday, ECAN Chairman, Mr Chux Ukwuatu, said the event would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to review the progress made in the sector while identifying pathways for sustainable development.
He added that the summit would also recognise individuals and institutions whose leadership and contributions have significantly advanced education and human capital development in the country.
“The awards are in recognition of the recipients’ visionary leadership, outstanding contributions to educational development, policy implementation and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s human capital development,” he stated.
The statement noted that Dr Alausa would declare the summit open, while participants are expected from government ministries, departments and agencies, including education sector institutions, universities, colleges of education, development partners, researchers, private sector players and the media.
