Social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM, has claimed that some Fulani people sent him a video clip that probably triggered the recent deadly attack in Otukpo, Benue State.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that suspected Fulani herdsmen on Sunday morning launched an attack on Akpachi village and the Otukpo-Nobi community in Otukpo Local Government Area, killing at least 50 residents.
The ugly development was believed to be a reprisal attack following the murder of the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Alhaji Ardo Mohammed.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that Mohammed was killed on June 26, 2026, by gunmen after attending a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area of the state.
Reacting to the latest attack, VDM, in a post on his official Facebook page, claimed that some Fulani herdsmen sent him a video clip of one Idoma social media influencer celebrating the release of some suspects arrested in connection with the killing of Mohammed.
He said, “I woke up to a very sad news that Fulani attacked a village in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State and they killed a lot of people.
“They have been able to recover about 50 lifeless bodies and it is still counting. It was a revenge for the Miyetti Allah Chairman that was killed killed about two weeks ago.
“They went out for the reprisal attacks and they massacred a lot of people. I also got a message from the Fulani people. They sent me a particular video, I believe that was what triggered the whole thing.”
It was gathered that over 50 lifeless bodies have been recovered so far, while several persons injured in the attack are still battling for their lives.
