A heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds has caused widespread destruction in several communities within Dutse metropolis and its environs in Jigawa State.
The affected areas include Gida Dubu, Takur Site, Mobile, Kudi, Dan Masara, Kwaimawa, and other parts of the state capital.
Arogidigba Global Journal observed that, the heavy rainfall and windstorm destroyed fences, blew off the roofs of houses, shops, and destroyed electricity poles.
Power lines were also damaged, while several trees were uprooted as a result of the windstorm.
The downpour further resulted in the blockage of drainage channels and culverts, with residents attributing the situation to the accumulation of waste materials and plastic debris in waterways.
Some residents attributed the incident to residents’ failure to carry out the annual clearing of drainage channels and culverts.
They warned that the situation could lead to severe flooding if urgent measures are not taken.
The affected residents have called on the government and relevant authorities to provide immediate assistance and take proactive measures to prevent further disasters during this period of rainy season.
