Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University Jalingo, has asked governor Agbu Kefas to urgently honour the 2025 Federal government negotiated agreement with ASUU to avoid industrial action at the University.
In a statement by the chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, the union expressed on Wednesday that the state government’s failure to honour the agreement was a clear indication of neglect on lecturers, and called on the governor to immediately act by complying with the agreement.
Dr. Mbave disclosed that the press statement was ASUU- TSU chapter’s final warning to the state government to act or face strike action, stating that enough of empty promises was enough.

“Enough of empty promises is enough. We have once again been pushed to the edge by the failure of Taraba state governments to honour agreements freely entered into with our Union. We have sonsiders it necessary to alert the public, parents, students, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, labour unions, and all lovers of education that our patience is exhausted.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the issues before us are clear. They include the non-implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU negotiated agreement, the continued refusal of relevant authorities to implement Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), Professorial Allowance, and Earn Academic Allowance (EAA).
“These issues are not new; They are not unreasonable requests. These are matters that have been discussed, negotiated, documented, and repeatedly brought before the state government through several engagements. Unfortunately, instead of taking concrete action, our Union has been met with silence, and neglect by the Taraba state government.
“The 2025 FGN-ASUU negotiated agreement was expected to address long- standing problems affecting university education in Nigeria. These include the welfare of academic staff, funding of universities, revitalisation of the university system, better conditions of service, and the overall strengthening of public universities.
“However, despite the understanding reached, the Taraba state government has failed to implement the agreement. This failure is unacceptable, provocative, and dangerous for the future of TSU.
“We have viewed the continued failure to implement the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement as a profound disregard for the principles of collective bargaining. It also shows a lack of seriousness about the survival of TSU.
“We wish to state here that ASUU- TSU is not asking for charity. The union is demanding what is due to its members. We demand respect for labour, fairness, and comprehensive implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement.
“We therefore demand as follows: i Immediate implementation of CATA, ii Immediate Payment of all outstanding arrears arising from the non- implementation of legitimate entitlements. iii Respect for collective bargaining as a basic principle of industrial harmony,” the statement read.
The ASUU- TSU warned that the union will be left with no other option but to embark on an indefinite strike, if her demands are not attended to, within the shortest time.
