A member of the House of Representatives representing the Yagba Federal Constituency, Elder Leke Abejide, recently distributed a total of N740 million naira to 72 communities across Yagba, with N10 million allotted to each.
The socio-political organisation Yagba Progress Defenders made this announcement in a press statement, highlighting it as a significant demonstration of grassroots-focused leadership.
The group’s spokesperson, Ayo Emmanuel, Esq., commended the developmental achievements observed in Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro Federal Constituency. He described the impact of the member’s leadership as visible, measurable, and worthy of continued support.
Emmanuel added that the forum was convened to raise awareness about the developmental progress in the constituency and the importance of preserving these gains.
According to him, the constituency has witnessed unprecedented levels of representation, empowerment, accessibility and community development, making it a model within and beyond Kogi State.
“This was not a campaign promise or political rhetoric. It was a direct intervention that touched real communities and improved the lives of ordinary people,” Emmanuel said.
He noted that beyond the community grants, Abejide has implemented numerous initiatives in infrastructure development, education, healthcare delivery, youth empowerment and social welfare, with benefits extending beyond the federal constituency to neighbouring areas.

The group maintained that the people of Yagba deserve sustained progress rather than a return to what it described as an era of unfulfilled promises. It stressed that the developmental gains achieved in recent years should be consolidated through continued people-oriented representation.
Commenting on the political process that produced Abejide as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Emmanuel said the party’s primary election was conducted in accordance with established constitutional provisions, party guidelines and electoral laws.
He argued that seeking re-election remains a constitutional right available to every qualified Nigerian and noted that many lawmakers across the country have served multiple terms based on the confidence reposed in them by their constituents.
“The ultimate decision on who represents the people lies with the electorate through the ballot box,” he stated.
Emmanuel further recalled that Abejide had established a strong political base long before joining the APC, having won elections and earned widespread support through his performance, accessibility and commitment to the people.
According to him, Abejide’s eventual membership of the APC followed appeals from various stakeholders, youth groups and party supporters who believed his inclusion would strengthen the party and accelerate development in the constituency.
He added that the lawmaker remains one of the APC’s strongest political assets in the area and has consistently supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The group called on political actors and stakeholders to embrace issue-based campaigns, respect democratic principles and place the collective interest of the constituency above personal ambitions.
Emmanuel emphasized that if the people choose to grant Abejide another mandate, they should be allowed to do so freely through democratic means.
“Yagba has made remarkable progress, and the gains recorded must be protected. Development should be encouraged, facts should prevail over falsehood, and the people must be allowed to determine their future through the democratic process,” he said.
