The Forum for Nation Builders and Social Development has expressed concern over rising political tension and the loss of lives linked to political activities in Osun State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the organisation described the growing incidents of violence as disturbing and urged political actors to prioritise peace and the welfare of citizens.
The group noted that politics should serve as a platform for development and improved living conditions rather than becoming a source of fear, violence and bloodshed.
Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Lateef-Bakare, said the increasing association of politics with violence was a troubling development that required urgent attention from all stakeholders.
“The Forum finds it disturbing that politics, which should be about service, development and improving the lives of the people, is increasingly becoming associated with violence, fear and bloodshed,” he said.
He stressed that no political ambition should be pursued at the expense of human lives, adding that the protection of citizens must remain a priority.
The organisation condemned all forms of political violence and called on politicians and their supporters to exercise restraint in their engagements and resolve differences through peaceful means.
“We strongly condemn all acts of violence and call on politicians and their supporters to exercise restraint, embrace dialogue and conduct their activities peacefully,” the statement added.
The Forum urged security agencies to carry out thorough and impartial investigations into reported incidents and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted, regardless of political affiliation.
It also appealed to residents and political leaders to place the peace, unity and progress of Osun State above partisan interests, saying the future of the state depends on a collective commitment to responsible leadership and peaceful coexistence.
