Suspected terrorists have reportedly abducted a chieftain of Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) (New Era), Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, and two others in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Investigation revealed that the OPC chieftain was abducted with two others, a driver and one other person, when they went to pay a ransom of N30 million, five motorcycles and three bags of rice to enable the terrorists to release a kidnap victim.
It was also learnt that the kidnap victim, now deceased, was a brother to a high-profile politician in the state.
A member of the OPC (New Era), who confirmed the development, said that unknown to the OPC chieftain and his team, the abducted victim had been killed by the terrorists at the time they went to deliver the ransom and other items in a lorry.
The source said that the team took the items to a hill inside a thick forest in Oko-Irese, which he said leads to Kogi State, after which they were abducted at gunpoint.
It was also gathered that the OPC chieftain was warned by a female spiritual leader in the group not to embark on the adventure because he saw him tied by the terrorists.

“I was surprised that our boss still went on that trip. We didn’t even know that he went until this abduction incident happened,” a member of the group said.
Speaking on the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said that the command had not been informed of any kidnap incident involving an OPC member.
“Nobody informed the police of any kidnap incident involving any OPC member. So, we weren’t aware that anyone went to deliver ransom items to terrorists,” the police commissioner said.
