Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the nomination of renowned businessman and grassroots politician, Terry Igiebor, as Chairman of the Edo State Ecological Funding and Management Commission, in a move aimed at strengthening environmental management and accelerating grassroots development across the state.
The nomination was announced in a special government statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., on Monday in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
According to the statement, Igiebor’s nomination will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative screening and confirmation in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The state government expressed confidence in the nominee’s ability to provide purposeful leadership for the commission, citing his track record in public service, community development and commitment to grassroots empowerment.
Igiebor, a respected businessman and political figure in Edo State, previously served as a member of the Edo State Audit Service Commission, where he was credited with contributing to efforts aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and good governance in public administration.
Government sources said the nomination reflects Governor Okpebholo’s determination to reposition critical institutions of government to effectively address environmental challenges and improve the welfare of citizens across the state.
The Edo State Ecological Funding and Management Commission is expected to play a pivotal role in coordinating ecological intervention programmes, managing environmental funds and tackling challenges such as erosion, flooding and other environmental threats affecting communities in the state.
Observers believe that Igiebor’s wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors will strengthen the commission’s capacity to deliver on its mandate and support the government’s sustainable development agenda.
