The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has concluded a two-week intensive pistol management training course for 106 personnel, reaffirming its commitment to manpower development, professionalism, discipline and quality service delivery.
The training, held at the FCT Command Training and Obstacle Crossing Ground at the Command Headquarters, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, was designed to enhance officers’ firearm handling skills and reinforce strict adherence to operational efficiency in the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as lives and property.
Addressing the graduands, the FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, stressed the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy towards negligence in firearm handling, warning personnel against accidental discharge.
Public Relations Officer of the Command, Monica Ojobi, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said the training is part of ongoing efforts by the NSCDC FCT Command to strengthen operational capacity and promote professionalism among personnel in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“In the NSCDC, we do not condone accidental discharge. It is the height of professional misconduct and we do not take such misconduct lightly. You must be accountable and ensure professionalism at all times,” Odumosu said.
The Commandant also urged officers to maintain discipline and professionalism in their interactions with members of the public, emphasising that the Corps exists to protect citizens rather than intimidate them.
“The public is not our enemy. You must observe the rules of engagement, act with restraint, and remember that you are deployed to protect lives and infrastructure, not to intimidate citizens,” he added.
Odumosu expressed appreciation to the Commandant-General of the NSCDC for approving the training programme, noting that continuous capacity building remains central to the Corps’ mandate of safeguarding critical national assets and ensuring public safety.
He further charged participants to remain resilient, uphold discipline in the discharge of their duties and place the interests of the Corps and the nation above personal interests.
The officers underwent intensive training in weapon safety, marksmanship, tactical handling and the ethical use of force, in line with global best practices and the NSCDC’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The event culminated in the presentation of certificates to the graduands by the FCT Commandant during the Command’s Monday muster parade.
