Betta Edu: Almost all ministers transferred money into private accounts – Adeyanju tells EFCC

An Abuja-based rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, on Thursday said almost all the ministers under President Bola Tinubu’s administration transferred money into private accounts.

Adeyanju alleged that the ministers breach civil service laws but only the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu was caught.

In a statement he signed, the constitutional lawyer alleged that civil servants were behind the transfer of the funds.

He urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate all federal ministries.

The statement reads partly: “From my findings on this matter, all minister under the Tinubu government transferred monies into private accounts on the advice of civil servants mostly the permanent secretaries of their ministries.

“I have also come to find out that these civil servants deliberately get politicians and political appointees to contravene civil service laws so as to have something over their heads in order to perpetrate corruption unchallenged.

“The EFCC must investigate all ministries and not just Humanitarian alone. Justice must not only be done in this case, but it must also be seen to be done.”

A leaked memo indicated that Edu approved the payment of N585 million social intervention funds into the private account of a civil servant.

Following the disclosure, President Tinubu had suspended Edu over her alleged involvement in a N585 million fraud.

The president also directed the anti-graft agency to probe the allegation.
