Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, has expressed his displeasure over police investigation to unravel the cause of the death of the singer.
The PUNCH reports that Mohbad, a former signee of Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 28 in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Police Command had on September 18, 2023, inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the mysterious death of Mohbad.
“Do not forget, we have unique access with INTERPOL. Everybody linked to it (the death of Mohbad) will be identified and they will be brought to establish their level of involvement,” former Lagos Police Commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa, had said.
The death of Mohbad also led to the arrest of Naira Marley, and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry, amongst others.
The body of Mohbad was on September 21, 2023, exhumed for autopsy to unravel the cause of his death.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, had tweeted in September 2023 that an “autopsy has been concluded” and the police were “awaiting result.”
Meanwhile, Aloba, on Wednesday (today), while speaking on Trust TV disclosed that “a lot of things have been said outside which are not really right.”
He noted that his expectation was that after he carried Mohbad’s body to the police station, he would be followed to search Mohbad’s house.
He further lamented that he had not been given the autopsy report.
He said, “I am not satisfied with police investigation. When I carried Mohbad’s body to the police station, my expectation is that they would follow me to search his house or give me the police (autopsy) report which they have not given me. Those are the areas I am not satisfied with.
“They should ask them questions. Through searching their phones, they would know what killed Mohbad. A lot of people were living with him. So I am not really satisfied with the investigation.
“We are still looking for justice….Delay can result in denial. I am begging the government to put more effort so that things can go on fine as people expect.”
In November 2023, when asked by our correspondent about the release of Mohbad’s autopsy report, Hundeyin disclosed that the command had yet to get the report officially.
Hundeyin said, “The autopsy report has not been given to us. Some people have been carrying rumours that it’s ready. It’s one thing for it to be ready, it’s another thing for it to be given to us officially – that we would receive and sign a copy that we have received it. So, we don’t work with rumours, we work with facts.”
Aloba, in November 2023, had stated that nobody should collect his son’s body for burial without his authorisation.
He made this known in a video shared on TikTok.
“When this boy was alive, he was alive. When he (left), he still retained my name. Nobody should go there and take his body, please,” he warned.
The singer’s father added, “If they want to do anything there, I’ll be the one to authorise them. Nobody should go and carry MohBad’s body from there.”
Hundeyin, in an interview with PUNCH Metro in December 2023 reiterated that the command had not received the report of the autopsy conducted on Mohbad from the pathologists.
He said, “We’re not the pathologists who carried out the autopsy.
“When they (the pathologists) give us their report, we’ll conclude our investigation. For now, that’s what we’re waiting for. Except they want us to do guesswork, we can’t guess; we need to get the report and see the content of the result and we don’t have it yet.”
