The State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Akwa Ibom, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, has urged all pensioners to utilise their wealth of experience in the public sector and serve as a think tank capable of making valuable contributions to governance for the betterment of Nigeria.
The Director made this charge on Monday during the inauguration of an eleven-man executive council of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme sector (NUPCPS), Akwa Ibom chapter, led by Comrade John Udo.
Mkpoutom, who was represented at the event by Dr Udeme Peter, stated that the call was part of the agency’s mandate to mobilise favourable support for the government.
The chairman of the occasion, Comrade Akamba Awah, a labour consultant, commended the union for constituting a formidable front and advised them to always adopt a civil approach in demanding better conditions for all its members.
Additionally, the national chairman of the body, Comrade Sylva Nwaiwu, praised President Tinubu for increasing pensioners’ stipends and called for its speedy implementation, assuring members of effective representation in the pension reforms committee.
Present at the occasion were representatives of the Head of Service in the state, Senator Effiong Bob, members of the NUP executive council, top dignitaries, representatives of Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), media personnel, and other stakeholders.
