The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego has escaped an assassination attempt in Surulere, Lagos.

Arogidigba Global Journal gathered that six armed men stormed his Surulere residence on Saturday night.

The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Gbadamosi Close, has left residents rattled and raised concerns about growing insecurity in the area.

According to sources, the assailants arrived with the intent to eliminate the union leader but found the house empty, as Tafa Sego had stepped out earlier in the evening to attend an event with some associates.

Only the security guard was present at the time. He was reportedly tied up and beaten by the attackers, who proceeded to ransack the residence in a failed attempt to locate their target.

Fortunately, no lives were lost, and Tafa Sego escaped the attack unscathed.

A union stakeholder, Prince Idowu Onikoyi, confirmed the incident on Monday.

He assured the public that the NURTW chairman was safe and in good health, and that the police had been notified. The injured security guard has since filed an official report with law enforcement.

Local residents have expressed shock and fear following the attack, with many voicing concern over the possibility of a repeat incident. What was once a quiet neighbourhood is now on edge as investigations continue.

Police officers from the Area C Command have visited the crime scene to assess the damage and gather preliminary evidence. The guard’s testimony is said to be aiding efforts to identify those behind the attack.

A close associate of the union boss described the attempted assassination as deeply troubling, especially as it comes at a time when Tafa Sego is reportedly introducing reforms aimed at enhancing the welfare and operations of the NURTW in Lagos.
