The ongoing restructuring of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has seen the appointment of Adesua Dozie, the first female Regional General Counsel- Africa Upstream and Vice Chairman of ExxonMobil Companies in Nigeria and three new directors.
The appointees are Rowland Ewubare, group chief operating officer at NNPC; Mumuni Dagazau, executive vice president, downstream at NNPC; Sophia Mbakwe, executive vice president, of business services and Adesua Dozie, company secretary and chief legal officer.
Rowland Ewubare, as group chief operating officer, will oversee the day-to-day operations of NNPC, ensuring seamless execution of the company’s strategic objectives. Mumuni Dagazau, in his role as executive vice president, downstream, will be responsible for managing the downstream sector, including refining, distribution, and marketing.

Sophia Mbakwe, as executive vice president, business services, will lead the company’s support functions, ensuring efficient administrative and logistical operations.
Adesua Dozie, as company secretary & chief legal officer, will provide legal counsel and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
This latest move follows the recent reconstitution of the NNPC’s board and appointment of Bashir Ojulari, a former Shell top executive and executive vice president of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, signalling a determined effort to optimise operations and drive strategic growth within the nation’s energy sector.
These appointments come on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s recent overhaul of the NNPC board, aimed at enhancing efficiency and attracting investment.
The inclusion of these new directors is seen as a continuation of that strategy, filling key operational roles with qualified individuals.
