Peter Obi condemns massacre in Plateau, calls for urgent government action

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep distress over the latest wave of violence in Bokkos, Plateau State, where entire families were slaughtered in yet another gruesome attack.

In a statement issued via X, Obi lamented the loss of innocent lives, including children and pregnant women, as five communities, Mangor, Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai, were left mourning their dead.

The attack has once again highlighted the growing insecurity in Nigeria, a nation not officially at war but increasingly plagued by mass killings, kidnappings, and violent crimes.

“How long will these killings, kidnappings, maiming, and criminality continue?” Obi questioned, urging the government to take decisive action to curb the rising tide of violence.

Obi decried the normalization of mass burials and the fear that now grips communities across the country.

He pointed out that similar attacks have occurred in Jato-Aka in Benue, Eha-Amufu in Enugu, Ufuma in Anambra, and Aba Oyinbo in Ondo, emphasizing that no Nigerian should live in fear or be denied the right to livelihood due to insecurity.

The former governor called for urgent intervention from the government and security agencies to not only put an end to the killings but also ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“We must end this grief and terror; this is becoming extremely unacceptable,” he stated.

Offering his condolences to the people of Bokkos and other affected communities, Obi reiterated his vision for a safer and more secure Nigeria.

“A New Nigeria is Possible,” he affirmed, urging authorities to act swiftly to protect lives and restore peace across the nation.

As the country grapples with yet another tragic loss, the call for concrete security measures grows louder, with Nigerians demanding urgent action from those in power.
