ISLAMIC clerics have charged Nigerians to strive for a balanced and just society that fosters harmony and reverence for Allah.
The clerics gave the charge at a public lecture organised by the Yewa Muslim Community in Ogun State.
One of the clerics, the National Imam of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society, Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad, while speaking on the theme ‘The Muslim Community: Pivot of Societal Harmony and Well-being’, emphasised the importance of Muslims striving to build a community characterised by moderation and balanced thought and action.
Drawing from Qur’an’s teachings and the example of Prophet Ibrahim, he underscored Islam’s essence as a religion of pease and unity.
“In our efforts to build a balanced ummah, we must uphold the principles of Tawhid and Ikhlas and recognise the necessity of authoritative leadership within our community,” Sheikh Ahmad said.
He expressed concern over the current crisis of leadership within Islamic circles but remained optimistic that adherence to Islamic principles could restore unity and direction.
He urged the community to embrace diversity while maintaining a collective focus on faith and shared values.
In his keynote address, the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, commended the Yewa Muslim Community for organising such an enlightening programme and praised its efforts in promoting unity and Islamic values.
He stressed the importance of educating youths on both Western and Islamic principles to safeguard their identity and values amidst modern challenges.
The Ogun State deputy governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who was represented by a former Ogun State chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Abdul-Jabar Ayelaagbe, echoed similar sentiments and expressed concern over the erosion of Islamic values.
She called for concerted efforts to instill moral integrity and mutual respect in society.
The Medical Director of Lafiyah Medical Centre, Dr Rabiu Kusimo, who was represented by Dr Ibrahim Opeewe, emphasised the significance of physical and mental health awareness within the community.

He urged adherence to Islamic hygiene principles and proactive healthcare measures.
Reflecting on the event, the Secretary-General of the Yewa Muslim Community, Alhaji Nurudeen Bola Adesina, emphasised the community’s historical journey and its commitment to unity and progress.
His speech, which was read by Mr Nurudeen Olaleye, outlined plans to enhance community infrastructure and educational initiatives, underscoring the role of faith-based principles in guiding communal development.
Dignitaries at the event included a former Ogun State deputy governor and Iya Adini of Ogun State, Alhaja Salmot Badru; former Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the Baba Adinni of Ogun State, Sarafa Isola; Chief Imam of Yewaland and President, Ogun State League of Imams and Alfas, Sheikh Sikirullah Babalola and members of the House of Representatives, Honourables Abiodun Akinlade and Gboyega Isiaka.
